I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal

Performance Increases in a Normally Aspirated Mazda Renesis Rotary Engine

I-Rotary vs. Mazda HP Graph

The Engine Dynamometer Test

In a dyno test of a Pro Formula Mazda Race Engine performed by Mr. Daryl Drummond of Drummond Enterprises, the I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal provided a significant increase in performance over the Mazda Renesis apex seal.

    • The I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal showed a total gain of 11+ HP (8.5+ kW) at peak power and 5.3 lb-ft (7.2 N-m) at peak torque.

    • The I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal has longer lasting performance.  The Mazda or OEM Renesis apex seal often lasts 25 engine dyno runs before the peak HP and Torque begin to decrease. The I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal never lost any performance, even after 50+ engine dyno runs.

    • The I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal lowered the exhaust temperature by 165°F (74°C) at peak power and 177°F (98°C) maximum RPM.  This dramatic reduction in temperature is due to the better “Hot Compression” sealing characteristics of the I-Rotary Apex Seal.

    • The chrome surface of the Rotor Housings with the I-Rotary Apex Seal was as good as the surface of the rotor housing using the OEM or factory apex seal.

Performance / Racetrack RX-8 Car Test

The I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal has been tested in a normally aspirated Renesis engine on a Performance RX-8 car for around 30,000 miles (~48,000 km) with excellent results, which confirmed that:

      • The performance gains found during the engine dynamometer testing allowed the car to exhibit faster lap times at the racetrack than other RX-8 cars.

      • The total wear of the I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal during this performance / racetrack test was similar to the wear expected when using the factory apex seal under these environments.

      • The condition of the riding surface of the I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal during this performance / racetrack Test was similar to the condition of the riding surface of the OEM apex seal exposed to this stress environment.

      • The rotor housing chrome surfaces looked extremely good, and similar to rotor housings running with the factory apex seal after this considerable distance driven at this level of high performance.

      Forced Induction Applications

The I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal can be used in boosted engines with Turbo or Supercharging.

Another major advantage of using the I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal as compared to the Mazda or OEM Renesis apex seal is that the likelihood of fracture is extremely low, and for all practical purposes, nonexistent.

This reliability advantage is of greatest benefit for any Renesis engines using forced Induction such as turbocharging or supercharging.

The structural integrity and strength advantages of the I-Rotary Renesis Apex Seal, in addition to its excellent sealing and wear performance, will provide a major horsepower performance benefit in Renesis engines with any type of forced induction.
